Onboarding

about.

I received a brief to improve the user experience for the "Golden leaf" and "Sea Quest" games. While both games were developed in a similar manner, they lacked a proper onboarding process, leaving players unsure of how to play or where to interact.

To address this, I conducted usability tests to identify the points where confusion most frequently occurred and where gameplay became unclear. It quickly became evident that the absence of a structured, step-by-step onboarding flow was the primary issue.

Following my research, I created detailed onboarding concepts in Figma for both games. These included clear instructions on how to play, along with visual explanations of the various buttons and in-game functions.

The pictures below show areas for improvement gathered after my user tests.

challenge.

Both "Golden Leaf" and "Sea Quest" lacked a structured onboarding process, leaving new players confused about how to start, what actions to take, and how to interact with the game. Without clear guidance, players often abandoned the game early, resulting in reduced engagement and retention. The challenge was to design an intuitive onboarding experience that would quickly educate players while keeping them engaged.

The result was a clear and engaging onboarding experience, combining concise text with short, looped videos that visually demonstrate and explain the game’s various functions and how to play.
